Job purpose:
Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the relationship with our outside accounting service provider and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of success in a similar role.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Manage the day-to-day relationship with our outside accounting service provider, including overseeing their work, providing guidance and support, and ensuring timely and accurate deliverables.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and other financial transactions to ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Coordinate the annual financial audit process, including liaising with external auditors, preparing audit schedules, and addressing any audit inquiries or findings.
- Develop and implement internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
- Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes in conjunction with the outside accounting firm, including providing support for invoice processing, vendor management, and customer billing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives and provide financial insights and analysis as needed.
- Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and regulations, assess their impact on the company, and recommend appropriate actions.
- Mentor and develop accounting team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience managing relationships with external service providers, such as accounting firms or consultants.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Proven leadership abilities, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software applications.
