Job purpose:
The Accounting Revenue Manager is responsible for overseeing the revenue accounting processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and ASC 606, and providing support for financial planning and analysis. This role involves the review and management of revenue recognition policies, contract review, monthly close procedures, and financial reporting. The Accounting Revenue Manager works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the organization’s revenue is accurately reflected and that the financial statements are in compliance with all relevant regulations.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Manage the revenue recognition process, ensuring compliance with GAAP, ASC 606, and other applicable accounting standards.
- Review customer contracts to determine the appropriate revenue recognition treatment and ensure alignment with company policies.
- Implement and maintain policies and procedures for accurate and timely revenue recognition.
- Work with external auditors to ensure compliance with revenue reporting requirements during audits.
- Lead the month-end revenue close process alongside outsourced accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of all revenue-related accounts.
- Reconcile deferred revenue and unbilled revenue accounts, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies.
- Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to ensure revenue results are correctly reflected in the financial statements.
- Provide revenue forecasting insights and analysis to support budgeting and financial planning.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, potential risks, and opportunities to improve revenue forecasting accuracy.
- Continuously review and improve internal processes and controls related to revenue recognition and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or relevant accounting certification is highly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in revenue accounting or financial reporting
- Strong understanding of GAAP, ASC 606, and other relevant revenue recognition guidelines.
- Proven experience in managing revenue recognition for subscription-based services, software, or industries with complex contracts (e.g., SaaS, tech, telecommunications).
- Familiarity with financial systems and accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems).
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting/reporting tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain complex accounting concepts in a clear, concise manner.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
