About the role
Zillow is looking for a Senior Tax Manager to become a key member of its growing tax planning team. The candidate must be comfortable directly liaising with business teams, finance, and other stakeholders in support of business initiatives, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets. The candidate will work closely with other members of the tax department to obtain relevant subject matter input and ensure coordination of comprehensive tax solutions. This role will operate with a high degree of independence and be encouraged to collaborate effectively to function as a technical tax advisor in support of business teams!
Primary Job Duties Include:
- Provide tax subject matter expertise to business teams and other corporate partners
- Evaluate and communicate the tax implications of business initiatives, contemplated transactions, and other proposals
- Collaborate to proactively identify and assess tax planning opportunities
- Assist with structuring, negotiation, drafting and post-acquisition integration with respect to mergers and acquisitions and capital markets activity
- Conduct cross-functional coordination with stakeholders across Accounting, Legal, Treasury, Finance and Business Teams
- Analyze federal, state and local tax laws and their application to business proposals and other projects
- Monitor industry positions relevant to Zillow’s business operations
- Research and prepare memoranda to document and support positions on tax impacts of M&A and business activities as well as other projects
This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.
In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $120,900.00 – $193,100.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.
In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.
Who you are
Candidate should be able to work well with cross functional teams. The candidate must be able to communicate, verbally and in writing, complex tax concepts in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals. This position is not directly involved in compliance and will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting the tax leadership group.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or other relevant area
- JD; advanced Tax degree preferred
- 4+ years of tax experience with a law firm or national accounting firm
- Understanding of core federal, state and local tax provisions
- Ability to analyze and review tax statutes, regulations, and case law, demand excellence from advisors, exercise controllership, and make appropriate recommendations
- Ability to clearly and concisely interface with nontax personnel
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- State and local tax experience & proficiency with excel preferred
